WX works great. AA & 12v are the way to go. January 11, 2007 Paul (Ball Ground, GA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Got the radio as an emergency item. The WX stations pickup and sound very clear with the included antenna. Glad that the device uses AA. Readily available, many recharging options for AA. Also works off 12v, tested that. Reception with the CB seemed to work fine as well and it does scan. As another reviewer said ( I'm an ex HAM radio technician), the antenna is the key for a radio. If you're worried about reception or transmitting, get something like a roof mounted magnetic antenna for your car. You don't have to mount it until you need it. If you're clever, you can use a spool of wire for this ( I did that for my previous CB and it worked fairly well, but had to tune the antenna first by progressively cutting small amounts off until it worked like I wanted). Haven't tested transmitting with it, but I'm sure it works. If I have problems, I'll head for higher ground and try to retransmit. Cheers!
Very Pleased July 31, 2007 M. Miller (VA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I use this when I travel up north on I95. I hooked it up with a portable outside antenna and it worked great. I would suggest this setup for anyone that uses it traveling. You would need to buy an adaptor piece (Cobra HA-BNC BNC to Standard Connector for Hand-Held CB Antennas) that fits the antenna to the top of the scanner. I use the Little Wil antenna with this and it works terrific.
Excellent Radio, Extremely Recommended May 19, 2007 Humvee256 (Ruther Glen, VA USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The Cobra HH38WXST Handheld CB Radio is an excellent radio for anyone looking for something portable and well-built. This radio claims to have a 4-mile range, but it seems to be closer to 2 miles in the woods, and 5 miles in an open city. I also purchased the extension antenna from Cobra, which extends to 27". This will increase your range dramatically. In the woods, near the lake, I can talk to truckers over 15 miles away. I can easily hear the drivers 8 miles away, and you can quietly hear the drivers approximatly 15 miles away. The only problem is that you may be able to hear that far, but you must be within 4 miles of that radio to talk to them. It is all in the reception. If I had the option to recommend this product, I will tell everyone in the market for a Portable CB Radio. If you are planning on using it for a base unit, though, look for one with an external antenna and mountable. This radio does not pick up well in vehicles without the optional Car-Mounted Antenna, which I have not tried as of yet.
Cobra HH38WXST Hand Held CB. July 30, 2006 Randy L. Haynam (Canton,Oh) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
The Cobra HH38WXT Hand Held CB is a high quality, light weight, well designed unit that performs as the manufacturer stated. It is also small enough to allow smaller hands to comfortably reach around it.
