What's in the Box? 846 Quest rooftop cargo bag, 4 x attachment straps, stuff sack, and instruction guide Manufacturer's Warranty Limited lifetime warranty About Thule To say that Thule's beginnings in the U.S. were humble would be an understatement. Founding member Ake Skeppner sold products at windsurf competitions on the New England shoreline, exhibited the product line at a number of different trade shows, and even canvassed local retailers in the greater New York area, all from his "office"--a now-famous station wagon. Initial success was found in the small but growing sport of windsurfing where a strong, reliable roof rack was an indispensable piece of equipment. This was quickly followed by success in the ski business where Thule's Swedish heritage certainly helped the product gain rapid acceptance. By the mid-1980s, the company sold products directly to ski and windsurfing shops but sold through distributors to address the large and growing bike business. A risky decision was made to terminate these distributor relationships and sell direct to retailers through a network of independent sales representatives. Much of the company's market success today can be traced to that decision. Shortly after, Ake hired an engineer and set up a small assembly plant in Elmsford, New York in order to design and manufacture bike carriers that would offer the features demanded by the U.S. consumer and compete effectively with other racks on the market. The company has since grown rapidly through product innovation, a commitment to quality, and the continuance of a strong entrepreneurial spirit as well as continuing to evolve their products to meet the needs of users.

Thule 846 Quest Rooftop Carrier - Great to Have September 17, 2007 Donna Castellano (Westchester County, NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Purchased this as a last minute item when we realized we did not have enough room in the van for all our stuff and kids for a road trip. We were very pleased with the Thule 846 Rooftop Cargo bag. It is soft, so its easy to get "Stuff" in there. We were pleasanlty surprised by the amount of items it actually held. Drove through wind and rain.. remarkbly, nothing inside was wet. Easy to hook up. Everything is built in, attaches directly to roof with straps. We found it easier to fill the bag on the ground then lift it to the roof; This option requires strong, tall men though!
Great Bag July 12, 2008 E. Crow (North Carolina) Great product at a great price! We considered a more expensive, hard shell cargo carrier, but didn't want the hassle of storing it when it wasn't in use. This Thule rooftop bag is durable and conveniently stores in a small bag we carry in the back of the car.
quality product July 10, 2006 J. Barczak (Baltimore, MD) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
We used this for the first time this summer. The bag held up well during 600+ miles of interstate driving. It did let some water through during the rain, but not real bad. Be sure to pack your items in plastic bags if they're predicting rain or go for the more expensive waterproof Thule bags. This is much more convenient than the big plastic cargo boxes since it folds up so small, goes in it's own carry bag, and fits on the closet shelf. It also goes on the vehicle quickly with four straps. Very easy to use.
Worked well for our vacation September 1, 2007 The Professor (Ohio) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
We recently purchased the Thule Quest rooftop bag for use during our family vacation, which involved 1400 miles of driving. Our bag is 10 cu. ft. in size, which held three suitcases whose sizes where at the large end of airline carry-on luggage, along with several smaller bags (shoes, etc) and some odds and ends to fill the space. The bag has a sloping front end and did not add any detectable drag while driving. In fact I did not notice any real difference in driving whether the bag was attached or not. The cargo bag worked very well for us and the pros and cons are listed below: Pros: It is lightweight, so it is very easy to attach to the roof. In fact, it was attached and loaded by one person. We have two cross supports on the top of our small SUV and the four straps provided allowed for the both the front and the back of the bag to be attached twice. While I checked the bag each time we stopped, the straps never loosened and the bag did not shift during the trip. I found it best to put the extra length of strap under the bag, if they are hanging loose they make a lot of noise. When we reached our destination and unloaded the cargo bag, I simply undid the straps and took off the bag. Those families vacationing with us that had the hard-top carriers had to leave them on for the entire week!! When not in use the bag simply folds up and is stored in the carry case provided. Cons: As others have noted, these bags are best described as water resistant, not water proof. During the first part of our trip it was raining and when we finished the trip there was water inside the cargo bag. Knowing that this was possibility, I packed the suitcases in plastic lawn/leaf bags and with the small amount of water present the bags did not get wet. I would restrict the items put into the cargo bag to those that will not be damaged by water. Overall the cargo bag worked well for us and I would recommend it, taking into account the limitations discussed above.
Sturdy Extra Rooftop Storage August 26, 2007 Ted Bongiovanni (Brooklyn, NY, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We used this for our first family roadtrip vacation about 3 hours away. The bag mounted easily to our car's roof rack. Loading it was a bit of a chore, but you'd have that with any roof cargo carrier. We had good weather out for both directions and the product performed well--we stuffed it with all our luggage so our dog could ride in the back. The straps flapped around a bit on the highway, but otherwise, no complaints. The zippers and fasteners are well made.
