I found the item description to be ambiguous. The picture is no help because it shows three part numbers and does not say which one is which.
The 80303 goes from 1-1/4" ON YOUR CAR and sizes up to 2" at the back end where the carrier or rack would insert. It is the part shown in the middle of the picture.

I have an SUV with a 2 inch hitch receiver, and a sedan with a 1.25 inch receiver. My bike rack fits into a 2 inch receiver only. With this adapter, I can mount the bike rack to both cars.

All of my 2" hitch units work fine with this adapter. I downsized from a SUV with a 2" and went to a compact car with a 1 1/4". This allows me to use my bike carriers, luggage racks, etc.

Adapter converts 2" accessories to 1 1/4" receiver. Extends receiver 6" which makes backing up short trailers easier and provides additional room to raise SUV door or glass when using platform or bike rack. Solid connection with very little additional play. Remember to purchase an additional locking pin to lock adapter to receiver.

WOW! I couldnt believe that they actually made a hitch for my sports car. The car manual said that it is not possible to put a hitch on the RX8, but I really wanted one to accomodate my hitch bike rack. I ordered this one and it fit perfectly - in fact the holes in the hitch mounting bar lined up with holes already in the car frame, like the car was designed to accept this hitch! It only took me about one hour to install - didnt even have to remove the tires or jack the car up! Very easy installation.
