Product Description

Personal vendettas, hidden treasure, and a monkey named Carl will send bounty hunter Stephanie Plum on her most explosive adventure yet.

The Crime: Armed robbery to the tune of nine million dollars

Dom Rizzi robbed a bank, stashed the money, and did the time. His family couldn’t be more proud. He always was the smart one.

The Cousin: Joe Morelli

Joe Morelli, Dom Rizzi, and Dom’s sister, Loretta, are cousins. Morelli is a cop, Rizzi robs banks, and Loretta is a single mother waiting tables at the firehouse. The all-American family.

The Complications: Murder, kidnapping, destruction of personal property, and acid reflux

Less than a week after Dom’s release from prison, Joe Morelli has shadowy figures breaking into his house and dying in his basement. He’s getting threatening messages, Loretta is kidnapped, and Dom is missing.

The Catastrophe: Moonman

Morelli hires Walter “Mooner” Dunphy, stoner and “inventor” turned crime fighter, to protect his house. Morelli can’t afford a lot on a cop’s salary, and Mooner will work for potatoes.

The Cupcake: Stephanie Plum

Stephanie and Morelli have a long-standing relationship that involves sex, affection, and driving each other nuts. She’s a bond enforcement agent with more luck than talent, and she’s involved in this bank-robbery-gone-bad disaster from day one.

The Crisis: A favor for Ranger

Security expert Carlos Manoso, street name Ranger, has a job for Stephanie that will involve night work. Morelli has his own ideas regarding Stephanie’s evening activities.

The Conclusion: Only the fearless should listen to Fourteen.

Thrills, chills, and incontinence may result.

5 out of 5 stars What is everyone's problem with this book?   June 19, 2008

I simply do not understand all the negative reviews here. This is a Stephanie Plum book, folks, not a Pulitzer Prize-winning book. Anyone familiar with the Plum series knows what they are getting into when they pick up one of these books. They are not meant to be taken as seriously as people are taking them here. What's with the deep analyses? This is light, fun reading at its best. The characters are goofy, but they are meant to be. This is escape reading, and people need to lighten up and enjoy it.

5 out of 5 stars Loved It!   June 21, 2008

I totally loved this book, and I can absolutely see Grandma becoming a super-gamer since she is totally committed to everything she does (and I'm sure Stephanie's Dad wishes his mother-in-law was committed). I was disappointed with the books about Stephanie that weren't part of the number series but I really loved this one as usual and can't wait for number 15.

5 out of 5 stars Great Series, Great Book   June 20, 2008

I thought this book was a great addition to the series, going against many of the reviews I read on the website today. I was a little disappointed myself in some perspectives. I don't believe we can compare the books against each other the way I feel some reviewers are. They are all a unique addition to the series.

The book brought Stephanie and the characters to a new level. Her relationship with Joe Morelli took a new change, showing me she can actually have an adult relationship with him without running back to her apartment every other week. I was a little disappointed at not having Ranger in the book quite as much as he has been in the past but it makes me want to read 15 that much more to see if he will be back again.

I really loved the character additions. Mooner was hilarious. He was a perfect example the the stoner everyone knew in highschool and what I think many people can see that personality, ten years later.

The stalker was awesome also. He was a small add in but he was noticed! The pizza disaster, squatting in Morelli garage, and chasing the crazy Brenda around was a perfect side note in the book.

The mystery add in was much appreciated. I loved not knowing who the fourth partner was in the book. It really added a new dynamic to the series.

I also think the book did a really awesome job of possibly bringing us to the end of the series, if that is JE's intention. A series can only go so far, and Janet did only sign on for 16. Could this be it?

I really hope all you readers out there who haven't read the book are not discouraged by the nasty reviews. Give it a try. You might find youself on the edge of your seat waiting for book 15 like I am.

5 out of 5 stars finally   July 5, 2008

I know that some readers did not like this new novel, but I have to disagree. I loved the earlier Plum series books, but somewhere in the middle of them Steph's character started to get a bit "immoral". I liked the interplay between her and both men, but I for one could do without the cheating. Her first encounter with Ranger was not that bad, since she and Joe were not together but by TS-yuck. I appreciated that Stephs's character in this book redeemed herself. Yes, she still has feelings for both men, but none of the sneaking around things that women would crucify a man for doing, but seem to revel in for this woman's character. I would have liked to have had more of Ranger though, I like his character. Perhaps throwing two more women in the series would make these last few books better. I for one would like to see Ranger meet a female version of himself which he also finds himself attracted too and I would also like to see Joe find another interest as well. Even if neither of them has a sexual thing that happens it would perhaps make the series more interesting and I would like to see how Janet would write about Steph's feelings on being just "one of the women" for a change and not being the only one flipping between two men. Turn about is fair play. But as for this book, I liked how comfortable Steph and Joe were with each other, it shows that there is more then just a sexual emotion there even though one of the sections says that that's what it is. I also loved when Joe told her he would be so devastated if something happened to her that he would have to be tied to a bed and tube fed. Wow...strong feelings there. I wonder if Steph's character would feel the same about him??? Great read, but light on the bounty hunting antics of past novels, so if that is what you are looking for you may not like this one. If you are a strong Ranger/Steph fan and I see alot of the previous reviewers were, then you also may not appreciate it. Lula and Grandma were their same wonderful selves.

Just as good as anything in the series, a fun and funny (sometimes hysterically funny) reading experience, and well worth the price of the book.
