Product Description
Three Cups of Tea was composed by Jake Fleming at the request of Greg Mortenson, father of Amira and author of the book Three Cups of Tea. The song and book advocate education in the Islamic countries of central and southwest Asia specifically, the education of girls. The heros in the song are the children who, in the face of adversity, oppression and poverty, relentlessly pursue their dream of an education. For lack of adequate facilities, children often write their lessons in the sand with sticks. In reality, one penny buys a pencil and one dollar will fund a child s education for an entire month. To date, Greg has helped build 55 schools in remote villages of Pakistan and Afghanistan with the help of his non-profit, Central Asia Institute. Three Cups of Tea is an extraordinary story of one man s efforts to make a change (Viking 2006). Proceeds from this CD will help support CAI and Greg s efforts. Proceeds from this CD will also help support Hand Me Down Some Silver, Inc., a 501(c)3 corporation founded by Jake and Jeni Fleming. This scholarship foundation aims to fund private music lessons, purchase instruments, help students realize their own recording projects, and provides students with long-lasting, inspirational musical experiences similar to this project. Jeni Fleming of the Jazz influenced folk/pop group, the Jeni Fleming Trio is fast becoming one of the Northwests most sought after vocalists. Recording artists and tour musicians, she and husband Jake (lyricist, songwriter and producer) also teach 60 private music students in their Montana home. Amira Mortenson is a 4th grader who loves music and aspires to sing on Broadway. A Pennies for Peace activist, she inspires American students to buy pencils for their peers in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Amira travels to the Islamic third world to personally deliver school supplies and greets children with Asalaam Alaikum (peace be with you). I am very proud of you, Amira, because your song is a big hit!
The song makes me feel I am sharing with the children of the world.
Now I know what Three Cups of Tea means. We should all share love with each other. I think each kid is connected. Us kids can make a new start and make the world a better place through peace.
Your cousin,
Sydney Star, age 7

5 out of 5 stars What reading this book has done for me   February 19, 2008

This book has changed me. I am still trying to come to grips with what that means. I feel different and better. It has touched my soul in a way that no other book has done for many a decade. It is almost an unbelieveable story. The fact that Dr. Greg is still alive is a miracle in itself. Here it is almost 2am PST and I could not get to sleep so I thought I would donate to the CAI, buy another book, and write this review.

I am a social liberal and a fiscal conservative. I choose to watch FOX News for some reason. I watch the other stations as well and I dislike FOX the least. I voted Republican in the last two elections only because I thought the other options would be worse. This book has taught me how wrong I was. It has layed out facts that no one would ever hear on any news station. The information provided by Greg and David was startling and it has caused me to rethink a lot of my views.

My recommendation is that if you do not read this book, you will be missing out on a life experience (thats right, this book was an experience, almost as if one was there themselves) and you will be missing out on enhancing your life in a way I find hard to express. You must read this book. You owe it to yourself, your family, your community, and the world you live in.

This is a charming little piece of music to listen to while contemplating the
far regions of the Himalayas. To make it doubly nice, some of the cost goes
to a non-profit agency working to education children.

Amira, daughter of Greg Mortenson, adds a beautiful musical component to accompany his best-selling book "Three Cups of Tea".

Her sweet voice encourages the world to join in peace and share with children from around the world.

This is a lovely companion song to the book Three Cups of Tea. I adored the book and it is nice to hear gently sounds that remind me of the power of women's voices and the serenity of eastern sounds.
