Features real-time night-and-day cycles and smart enemy AI. View larger. | Outstanding Graphics Ubisoft developed the Dunia Engine specifically for Far Cry 2. Among other things, the Dunia Engine delivers realistic, interactive environments, special effects, real-time night-and-day cycles, and smart enemy AI. Expansive, Realistic Environment Far Cry 2 is set in a fictional region of Africa where you are caught between two rival factions at war. The Ubisoft team spent a lot of time filming and photographing in Africa to get all the details of the landscape and native wildlife. The result is a huge gameplay area that is 50 square kilometers, taking players into and out of the jungle and savannah. Wild animals such as zebras, buffalo, gazelle are encountered during the game, with both players and enemies allowed to interact with them. Far Cry 2 features an incredible level of detail and realism, with a minimal in-game interface to detract from immersion. For example, players will need to navigate the world using an in-game map and navigation system, weapons will disintegrate over time, and fires will spread and propagate. Each of the actions a player takes is reflected in the environment and changes the content of the game. To fulfill your mission, you need to play the enemies against each other, using both strategy and skill. Huge Range of Weapons and Vehicles Far Cry 2 offers gamers a wide range of weapons, from a machete for hand-to-hand combat, to a sniper rifle that can stealthily pluck off enemies from afar. As weapons disintegrate over time, they might jam or even explode in your hand. There are also a large range of vehicles such as gliders, trucks, cars, and boats that will let you fly, drive, slide, and hover over the open landscapes. Multiplayer Options for up to 16 Players Far Cry 2 supports up to 16 players and has four gameplay modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Diamond, and Uprising. Players can choose from six different classes in multiplayer, each with its own set of pros and cons. Just as in the single-player mode, multiplayer games will feature dynamic elements, making each session unique. | System Requirements | | | Minimum | Recommended | | Operating System | Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista | | CPU | Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz, Intel Pentium D 2.66 GHz, AMD Athlon 64 3500+ or better | Intel Core 2 Duo Family, AMD 64 X2 5200+, AMD Phenom or better | | Memory | 1 GB | 2 GB | | Hard Drive Space | 12 GB of free space | | Graphics Hardware | NVidia 6800 or ATI X1650 or better; must support Pixel Shader 3.0 | Nidia 8600 GTS or better, ATI X1900 or better |

Beautiful & Innovative November 12, 2008 Project_X (Chicago, IL USA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Mediocre story line, slightly repetitive missions, but the scenery and innovation completely dwarf the plot shortfalls. You'll find yourself gazing into the sunrise or admiring the detail on the weapons, then being shot at because you're distracted. Hugely entertaining!!! Looks just as good as crysis, but runs twice as smooth. (8800GTX) DRM is a non-issue for me.
Great Securom! October 30, 2008 Andrew Hunter King (Middletown, CT) 4 out of 8 found this review helpful

FARCRY 2 DRM FACTS October 23, 2008 Crisischild 16 out of 28 found this review helpful
First of all - no one likes the drm issue. Myself included. I just wanted to add though that the official word is that you get five installs on three seperate computers BUT if you uninstall correctly - you revoke the install. YOU GET IT BACK. IT GETS REFUNDED TO YOU. Look, nobody likes drm but before everyone jumps on the panic wagon, get the facts right. Besides, you can download a free Securom uninstaller from the internet and you can edit your registry files and remove all that securom stuff completely. I've done it plenty of times. You just have to learn to have patience and how your computer works. I've never encountered any problems with my computer with games that use this type of security. The original FarCry is one of my all time favorites and it still holds up today. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl is one of the best FPS/Open World hybrids around. Farcry 2 feels kind of like a combination of the two. It rewards players who approach it with determination and patience. This is NOT a linear "trigger the cut scene" - "blast the same bad guy springing out from the same corner" type of game. I'm having a great experience with it. I recommend it. Although it may be annoying, the drm is not a virus and it's not going to hurt your computer. I work with computers all day, everyday. I know what I'm talking about. You're missing out on a great game.
Fantastic game!!! October 27, 2008 Vincent Kondas (London, UK) 5 out of 11 found this review helpful
After playing Crysis for a while, i was curious about how this game would turn out. I wasn't sure what to expect with gameplay, graphics and AI. Pretty much just like any game, when played for the first time, i had to get used to the way the character moved and everything of the sort so my first impression was: this game is ok. After about 30 minutes of gameplay i started to see all of the advancements in the graphics and physics of the environment. Now, everytime i play it, its better and better. The fact that you can free roam in the game is very neat. the lush foresty environment and movement of the shrubs and grass as you walk has definitely improved. One thing that i noticed while playing tonight and listening through my headphones, which really brings out all the little sounds, is that i hear sounds from animals but i never actually see them. I have seen goats but when walking through a dense African forest, one would expect to see an animal of some sort in the trees or a glimpse of a lion just to add to the realism of it. And also, the people are too easily heard from long distances. Other than that, its a great game and fun to play. Put the difficulty setting on the hardest and it gets intense struggling to survive. On another note, i have no problem with this DRM that everyone complains about. Its funny how people actually think that its to stop pirating. The company knew that it would not stop pirating; their main purpose for adding the DRM to their games was to entice people to not buy used copies of their games. Think about it; would you want to buy a game that you have no idea how many installs are left on it, if any??? I wouldn't... But this DRM is not like the others. it allows 5 installs on 3 different machines. And if uninstalled, it would "refund", so to speak, the used install. Its a great game and very fun to play. Just buy it, and enjoy it for what it is.
many hours of fun still ahead... October 27, 2008 casual gamer (Maryland, USA) 4 out of 10 found this review helpful
Ok I understand people's concerns over the DRM issue, and if this game ends up harming my computer in any way I will plenty pissed off (but I strongly doubt that it will). But leaving that aside, this game is simply an amazing accomplishment. A true work of art, and so much fun to play I can't even wait to get home! I'm about 5 hours in and have so far only completed 8% of the game (there is a good "stats" page provided so you can keep track of your progress in just about every way imaginable). I keep getting sidetracked just wandering off and exploring, because the scenery and landscape is no diverse and huge and beautiful in and of itself. Plus you can be rewarded by just wandering off too as there are hidden diamonds all around the world, which can be used to upgrade weapons, etc. Anyway, the ability to chose your mission and the endless variety of ways to approach each one means that I will be playing this game for a long long time. Oh and some people (including reviewers) have complained about the "tedium" of getting from one point to the next, but I don't see it that way at all, I mean how many times do any of us get to Africa? And what's your hurry? There is too much in this game to explore and enjoy to just jump from one fight to the next, and you would really be missing out if you did. As far as the game play and the gun battles, well the weapons sound and feel great, and every "kill" is satisfying and pretty bloody. I guess my one complaint so far would be the AI, which doesn't seem as smart as in some other recent games and which generally doesn't use cover very well. But its still plenty good enough, and they still approach and attack you with a plan and can surpise you at any moment (especially when they suddenly drive at you in vehicles while you're on foot). All in all, I am hooked on this game and totally engrossed, and I recommend it to any other casual to serious gamer (especially shooter fans) DRM or not. Its certainly worth $50 and it just might even be worth a whole new computer...
