Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Go back one year from the events of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. In Clear Sky, a group of stalkers has reached the heart of the Zone - Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. An immense blowout of anomalous energy changes the Zone. There are no more reliable and relatively safe roads. Entire levels vanish in the outbursts of anomalies. Stalkers and even expeditions die or end up sealed on the lost territories. New areas, which remained unknown since the time of the Zone emergence, appear on the Zone map. Changes of the Zone map known to stalkers shake the fragile balance of forces in the Zone. Among the groupings, there flare up hostilities for the new territories, artifact fields and spheres of influence. Everyone is now out for himself. You are a mercenary who appeared at the edge of the opposition between stalker factions, Strelok and the Zone itself. You play the key role in the events that led to creation of the Zone up to the point from which the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game begins. Which faction will take the upper hand?

Varied behavior of NPC stalkers in the A-Life world Advanced spectacular storyline scenes Improved AI of computer-controlled characters Skirting around dynamic obstacles by NPCs Use of grenades by NPCs Fast Travel Improved concept of detectors, artifacts and anomalies New system of upgrades for weapons and armor Weapons and armor repair Reworked HUD and PDA New version of the game engine - X-Ray 1.5 DirectX 10 renderer Improved DirectX 9 renderer - parallax bump, soft particles, depth of field, motion blur, eye adaptation effect Cutting-edge and detailed game graphics (normal map) Inverse kinematics New animation engine

5 out of 5 stars Back to the Zone   September 16, 2008

I played Shadow of Chernobyl five times in a row. Finish it. Start again. Ridiculous, but true. It had plenty of bugs and issues and required a lot of patience, but it was completely worth it.

Having loved the first game, I was incredibly excited about the release of Clear Sky and have watched it as it developed over the last year. There have been a lot of negative reviews from various sources, and yes, this game is also very buggy. It has the Stalker Curse of hardware issues and wierd problems.

But I've been playing it for several days now with no significant (read as "game stopping") issues, and it is every bit as cool as I hoped it would be. I'm loving it as much if not more than Shadow of Chernobyl.

So, if you're patient and not afraid of the fixer-upper games that GSC is apparently intent on releasing, and you liked the first Stalker... I say give it a go.

Its brilliant and brutal, just like the original.

A shiver ran through me as the rain pounded hard outside the tunnel...not because of the still-twitching dead man beside me, but from the cold wet night seeping through my armored suit...the awol soldier had asked me for help and then tried to get the drop on me, so his end was well deserved...bloody traitor anyway. I could hear wild dogs nearby...then as lightning lit the blackness bright as day saw them...a pack gnawing on a dead stalker...nothing to waste scarce ammo on...not that i would survive if they turned on me. I took a deep pull of vodka and felt the warmth spread...no more bandages and it was a long cold walk to a friendly town...perhaps i could make it before i bled to death.

Clear Sky compared to Shadow of Chernobyl...seems to be slightly more difficult so far,but not to the point of being frustrating...better graphics..same great atmosphere and realistic combat and real-life weapons..I patched to 1.5.04 which was available at the time the game was released and had zero problems running the game on high settings w/an AMD X2 2.0,2GB,8800GTS. No glitches in gameplay, no allegedly getting permanently stuck anywhere like this other reviewer.
If you liked the first game, enjoy realistic challenging FPS combat, non-linear open free-roaming environments and the freedom to do as you choose in the game, dont listen to these negative critics. Buy this game and enter the Zone..you'll never be the same.

I played the first s.t.a.l.k.e.r. game and absolutely loved it so I had been eagerly awaiting this game for several months before its release. To get the bad stuff out of the way first - a few reviewers have mentioned stability issues and I want to say that this game is definitely playable using the most recent 1.50.4 patch. I tried the 1.50.3 patch and it still felt unfinished / broken, but 1.50.4 makes this game the truly amazing piece of work everyone was hoping it would be. Try it for yourself before you listen to the big corporate reviewers. Anyhoo... back to the game:

First of all - the graphics are AMAZING! The DX10 lighting effects are downright incredible. Hanging out in the swamp (the first level of the game), watching the sun rise with the light playing through the trees, having the rays flaring out all around you, and taking a sip of vodka to deal with the radiation just feels so... real. Even the NPC interactions, although limited, feel real - strike up a conversation with dude in previously mentioned swamp, dude needs some grenades, find him some grenades, use the cash he gives you to buy his last bottle of vodka - goddam incredible.

I really can't say enough about this game - you have to play it. One tip - if you know there's a major battle coming up WAIT FOR DAYTIME. I mean running around shooting bandits at night is fine, but trying to play through an extended combat sequence when you can barely see what is going on (nightvision suit mods help, but not much) takes some of the fun out of it. So if you're gearing up for a big fight and you take a look at your PDA and it's 00:23:00 wander around for a few 'hours' and take in the atmosphere before throwing the gauntlet down with a fully modded tunder 5.45 and a backpack full of grenades (catch a pineapple!). Happy stalking.

Great game, fun to play, long story mode, plus the story is really great if you have played the first one. Not much more to say....

Sure their is bugs, but what's S.T.A.L.K.E.R without bugs?

What do you get when you throw together Oblivion, Silent Hill and Half life?
Stalker, of course.

I was a huge fan of the first game, and Clear Sky is my new obsession.
Imagine improving the graphics, gameplay and, yes, even the already astounding atmosphere of the first Stalker.

Not possible you say?
That's what I thought.

Buy. This. now.
