To take an accurate reading, first position the green marker directly over the artery on the inside of your arm. |
Next, place your arm on a table so the cuff is positioned at the same level as your heart. | Instructions for Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitors There are several easy steps to taking your blood pressure with this monitor. First of all, avoid eating, smoking, and exercising for at least 30 minutes before taking a measurement. Remove tight-fitting clothing from your upper arm, and sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor. Slide your left arm through the cuff and position the cuff approximately 0.5-inches above the elbow. On the cuff you'll notice a green marker; position this marker directly over the artery on the inside of your arm. Next, secure the cuff with the Velcro material. The cuff should make direct contact with your skin, but you should be able to easily fit your index finger between the cuff and your arm. Place your arm on a table so that the cuff is positioned at the same level as your heart. Rest comfortably in a relaxed environment for at least 15 minutes prior to taking your blood pressure measurement. Once you feel relaxed, simply press the start button and remain still. The cuff will begin to inflate and numbers will appear on the display as the heart symbol flashes. When the measurement is complete, the cuff will deflate, and your blood pressure and pulse rate will display on the screen. If you need to stop the measurement at any time, simply press the on/off button and the monitor will immediately deflate. And remember, always consult your physician for specific information about your blood pressure. What is IntelliSense? The IntelliSense monitor inflates the cuff to the ideal level with each use -- you never have to make any adjustments to select an inflation level. This is especially convenient for hypertensive users and for people with certain arrhythmia or heart disorders because their blood pressure is so likely to fluctuate. The biggest advantage of using the IntelliSense technology is a personalized inflation every time for maximum comfort. The Importance of Home Blood Pressure Monitoring Doctors, diabetes educators, physician assistants, nurses, and other healthcare professionals all recommend home blood pressure monitoring for various reasons. Home monitoring provides your healthcare professionals with better information to understand and manage your high blood pressure. Many types of hypertension can only be detected by monitoring your blood pressure at home, including: - White-Coat Hypertension: blood pressure reading is high in your doctor's office but lower at home
- Masked Hypertension: blood pressure reading is low in doctor's office but higher at home
- Morning Hypertension: blood pressure reading is higher in the morning
Additionally, many factors can affect your blood pressure, including physical exertion, emotional fluctuations, medications, and stress. So having your blood pressure monitored at a pharmacy with an in-store device after you've been shopping or walking around might not provide you with the most accurate measurement. Monitoring your blood pressure at home allows you achieve a relaxed state more easily, and it gives you the flexibility to take your measurements at various times during the day. By keeping track of your home blood pressure readings, you can provide your healthcare professional with a log of your measurements over time. This can help them evaluate the effectiveness or need for medication. Blood Pressure Monitor January 14, 2008 White Shoe Navy (Indiana, USA) 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
Being a nurse, i've used all sorts of makes and models to monitor blood pressure, including the self application type. Most are flawed by poor unstable connectors, tubes too short to reach between patient and device, clumsy to wrap, the air supply knob is either too tight or too loose, or electrical cords too short to be practical, etc. I was hesitant, skeptical and reluctant to pay this much. (I don't mind so much if it just works!) Now that the OMRON DLX Automatic Comfort Cuff has been in use for almost a month, it has proven it's worth! All the cords/connections are ample and stable. The reading is accurate and easy to obtain, even one-handed. It stays put when placed on the upper arm above the elbow, is comfortable and easy to complete the velcro closure. The memory allows comparison over a significant period of time and is a handy feature. I haven't tried to use it on battery power, but it gets my thumbs up!
Consumer Report says #1 instrument January 7, 2008 David Swett (Santa Barbara, CA United States) 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I am on verge on medicine needs for high blood pressure and wanted my own machine to keep an eye on daily fluctuations. Consumer Report says this is a #1 machine and it is very, very convenient and works so well. You'll be happy with this purchase.
The Omron is easy to use, and highly accurate March 17, 2008 B. Norton (Illinois, USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased the Omron HEM-711 after turning 40. I have a family history that made me interested in monitoring my blood pressure, and I want a unit that had received high ratings for accuracy. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the Omron is to set up and use. I especially like the memory feature showing the blood pressure reading, pulse, and the time of day of the reading. Taking my blood pressure is a very simple process. I simply slide on the cuff, lining the arrow up with my upper arm, and push the blue button. The machine takes care of the rest. The large numbers are easy to read. I am able to see my blood pressure, as well as my heart rate. Now, I have a week's worth of readings to help me be better informed before my next physical.
Value for Money May 22, 2008 S. Chandrasekaran (Syracuse, NY, USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this Blood pressure monitor two weeks before when Amazon.com offers $10 discount towards Omron products. It is an excellent product and the accuracy is quite brilliant (Even after several repetitions, the results are closer). It also calculates the average with the click of a button. The comfit cuff is nice & easy to wear. Good product for less money...Highly recommended...
So easy. May 14, 2008 Valentine (Chicago, IL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This monitor has been in our home for probably close to two years. Originally I bought it for myself, but it is so easy to use that my husband voluntarily takes his blood pressure periodically. You only need to find a comfortable position, slip the sleeve on your arm, press START, relax, within a minute your blood pressure and pusle are diplayed in huge easy to read numbers. You don't even need glasses to take your blood pressure because in addition to the prominent display size, the START and STOP are very large and stategically located. The monitor seems sturdy and has dependably functioned for us. Cuff size is important, because if the cuff is too small the readings could be falsely elevated. The cuff fits my husbands rather muscular arms. My arms are larger than ideal and the cuff fits my arm suitably. You should first take your BP in both arms and use the arm with the higher initial reading as your real BP. If the systolic reading differs more than 20 points between your arms, report it to your doctor.
