5 out of 5 stars best filter I've found   December 23, 2002

In California the water tends to be very hard. I purchased an under the sink two stage water filtration system and thought the problem would be solved. The water still tasted bad so I bought a Brita pitcher filter. Unbelievable! It tasted so good. I think it's because each filter has silver oxide particles mixed in with the charcoal and it softens the water very well. I wish I would have tried this filter first.

Since moving to the east coast I still find that these filters do a great job at making the water taste as good or better than bottled water at a fraction of the cost.

5 out of 5 stars Economical Water Purifier Replacement Filters   June 14, 2008

Own a Brita? Do these fit yours? Then this is what it comes down to. Economy. Three here are cheaper than one.

I mark the box flap with the date I replace each filter, and two months later, I replace the old with the new. Three will get you six months. As you close in on month six, buy a new box.

Complicated? Not at all. If this three-pack is cheaper than at the megamart, buy them. Otherwise, get these here.

I fully recommend the Brita Pitcher Replacement Filters.

5 out of 5 stars 17 Cents Per Gallon   February 3, 2002

I have been using Brita filters for over six years now and I have nothing but the best to say about them. Living in a part of the country where the tap water contains impurities resulting in poor taste, at first I resorted to bottled water. Besides being hard on the old wallet, I found that some brands had a burnt aftertaste to them. So I tried Brita. I was amazed at how it improved the taste of ordinary tap water. It tasted better than some bottled water I had been purchasing and it was crystal clear. I have been using Brita ever since. The only drawback initially is the cost of the pitcher, but once you have it the only other cost are the filters that are readily available at most stores. Each filter lasts about 40 gallons, which translates into getting bottled water quality for seventeen cents per gallon.

5 out of 5 stars For the very pitcher of health!   December 11, 2007

I've observed that it's the tree-hugger types that drink lots and lots and lots of bottled water. Think about this. If there are, by a very conservative SWAG estimate, 5 million Americans (or about 1/50th of our population) drinking four 12-ounce bottles of water a day, that's 7,300,000,000 plastic bottles being added to our landfills every year.

That's seven billion, three hundred million. If you laid those 7.3 billion bottles end to end, with no gaps between the bottles, that'd be a *really* long line. (According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, about 1/3rd of Americans drink bottled water "regularly.")

My point is, Brita water pitchers and filters have the potential to keep countless billions of plastic bottles out of the waste stream. That's a massive benefit.

Now that I'm well into my fifth decade, I drink lots of water each day and I think Brita filters are the best thing since sliced banana nut bread. No kidding. It filters out all kinds of nasty toxins and provides clean, tasty, healthy water - at a FRACTION of the cost of bottled water.

Plus, despite the popular criticisms of our municipal water systems, they do provide a good, reliable supply of healthy water. Our generation (baby boomers) may not fully appreciate this, but thanks to water treatment, chlorine and filtration, this country hasn't had a water-borne case of cholera or E. Coli in many decades.

Color me skeptical, but I have my doubts about the purity and safety of bottled "spring water" that costs 500 times more than tap water.

Pouring your tap water (which can contain heavy metals and other nasties) through a Brita filter is the best of all worlds. Cheap water, clean water and healthy water.

If I were queen of the world (and it shouldn't be long now), I'd put the bottled water companies out of business and ask folks to turn wholly to filtration systems (such as Brita) to provide clean, pottable water. And re-use those billions of water bottles for brita-purified water.

The only thing that'd make Brita better ---> create a new filter that also filters out flouride. Their current filters do not and I'm not convinced of the safety of flouride.

5 out of 5 stars Great-tasting water at a fraction of the cost!   March 3, 2007

I love Brita filters (and the jugs) for the taste (or the lack of it) that it gives my tap water. I use it all the time and when I accidentally drank a glass of unfiltered tap water, I could taste the difference! These filters are such a great deal on Amazon and the only complaint I have is not knowing when to change the filter. Didn't the Brita filters use to have a dial that points out when to change to a new filter?
