The 12" bass drum (with 12 tuning rods and lugs) has attractive color-matched inlaid rims for a pro-like "look". The 8.5" snare drum small tom each have 8 tuning rods and 4 lugs. My wife and I were looking at drums for younger children. Much of ones seen in kids toy stores ar just that - cheap kids toys that don't look like they would last very long if at all. We found this drum kit and ordered it. It arrived in less than one week (Thanksgiving got in the way)and it arrived in fine condition. Make no mistake, this a quality instrument for children, not just a "toy". It looks like it will stand up to a childs use for a long time to come and Vintage Drum has repair parts available if needed. When is the last time you saw that? The drums actually sound like drums should. My wife and I can hardly wait for Christmas to see our Grandaughter's face when she gets them!
