Amazon.com Review Checking the plastic rain gauge oftentimes means a trip out to the garden, in the rain, and then a lot of record keeping. A great way to stay abreast of the garden's irrigation needs without getting wet, Oregon Scientific's wireless, remote rain gauge features a self-emptying rain cup that measures and then dumps collected rainfall. Nine-day memory and indoor/outdoor temperature readings help monitor precipitation and weather patterns over time. An automatic a wireless transmission range of up to 300 feet with the rain gauge and up to 100 feet for the thermometer means a lot less back-and-forth. The unit displays daily readings, 9-day histories, and total rainfall records. Rainfall measurements are shown in inches or millimeters. The gauge also features a high rainfall alarm, comes with two AA batteries for the gauge and two AAA batteries for the sensor. --Brian Olson

sturdy rain/temp gauge February 23, 2006 K. Larkin (portland, or usa) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
this rain gauge was clearly engineered rather than slapped together like the lacrosse gauge i had before. the history only goes back 9 days, but it actually works. the instructions require a bit of patience, but if you follow the pictures rather than the text it's quite easy to set up. it has worked flawlessly and really is built impressively.
Very Satisfied February 10, 2007 Peter (Tres Pinos, CA United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I'm sorry to read the negative reviews on this item. I bought mine (via Amazon) before Xmas and even though we haven't gotten much rain it works flawlessly. I tucked the temp sensor outside the front door (in the shade) and the rain bucket outside my office and I always have a signal/reading. The temp sensor has to send the signal through several walls (or somehow around the house) and always sends the signal. It was a little tricky at first because I had other Oregon Scientific monitors and needed to set the new gauge so it was separate and didn't duplicate readings. Also, I agree the number of tiny screws is a pain the butt. Only having to change them once or twice a year is well worth the inconvenience. I'm tempted to buy more for friends, but with the negative reviews I'm not so certain I will. Pete
I would buy more if they were in stock! December 17, 2006 kimpea (Kent, WA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We bought this gauge for our brother-in-law in Colorado last Christmas and when we moved to Seattle, we bought one for ourselves. It works well and kept within a tenth of an inch of the recordings at SEATAC for the rainest month on record. We did lose connection with the themometer but a reset fixed it. (You can download the user manual if you misplace it, like we did!) Also, the indoor temp is more accurate than the one for our HVAC, so we use it to control the temp in the house.

For the price and ease of installation this rain gauge is about the best on the market.
