Awesome! I just regret I hesitated so long September 24, 2006 Laura (Ann Arbor, MI) 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
This little machine is GREAT! I needed something to help me clear out my overgrown yard in Michigan. I read so many reviews about the Mantis Tiller but just couldn't believe it would work that great. My yard is pure clay and hasn't been taken care off for 7 years. They offered a good deal with a one year satisfaction warranty (or full refund). So I tried it and, believe me, I wouldn't take the refund! This is a great little workhorse. I am an average-sized woman and I have absolutely no problems maneuvering this tiller. It starts fine if you don't set the choke too high. It is very light and not very hard to move since you basically pull it back and forth like a vacuum cleaner. It turns compact soil much better than my neighbor's big equipment. I've owned it for two years and really think it is one of the best purchases I've ever made!
IT IS EXPENSIVE BUT WORTH EVERY LAST PENNY!!! August 10, 2007 Bryan Huff (central Illinois) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I initially "borrowed" one of these for several years from a friend. After I returned it, I ran to the the store to buy my own. Lordy, are these things tough! I bought one with an optional Komatsu red devil engine that is oh so easy to start. Our main garden consists of 16 8 foot by 2 foot raised bed boxes and the mantis is a joy to use in small boxes. Its controllable and manuverable and prepares the beds deeply and beautifully. The best thing about the machine is its weight- you will use this without the hesitation associated with giant rototillers. Five Stars!
AWESOME June 9, 2007 Robyn L. Westergaard 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I wasn't too sure about this product when I ordered it but WOW! it maybe small but it works like a charm and does such a nice job of my flower beds and any thing else I think of to dig up. My two older children borrowed it and they were amazed at the job it did for them too. Love it! well worth the money. And the size is great. Not so big I had to have a "man" do it for me.

The Mantis Tiller is all they say it is. It does a great job tilling and cultivating, and is easy to operate. I highly recommend this machine.
Great little tiller June 9, 2008 David E. Barnes (Seattle, WA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have used a Mantis Tiller for over 20 years and it is one of the best little tools for the garden. It is light, powerful, and relatively easy to handle. My parents bought one in the mid-eighties and it is still running perfectly with countless hours of use on it. The new one we just received is nearly the same as the 20 year old one my parents have, with a few modifications (the throttle release, kickstand, etc). My wife experienced the issue of her hand hitting the on/off switch occassionally, although I have never had that problem. It probably has to do with hand size and height since she is a bit smaller than me. It works great in soil that has been tilled before - it is not a large tiller, so do not try to cultivate with it since it just is not heavy enough. It also, as other reviewers have stated, will get wound up with fibrous roots and stems. This is an issue that the design has always had and we have always mowed or wacked down plants and chewed them up well before tilling. Anyway, for a lightweight garden tiller, the Mantis is a great little tool, just do not expect that it will tackle the really hardcore jobs - rent a full size tiller for that and then use the Mantis each year after....
