Best Game Ever! Scariest, Wildest, Graphics Perfection April 28, 2008 J.J. Kilroy (Dallas, TX USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Not only is this the scariest game I have ever played, it might also be the most amazing game I have every played. Its got the whole deal: playability, variety, environment, challenge, graphics, acting (believe it or not), and scare-factor. This game continued to surprise and scare me until the last level, which was highly creative, but a little thematically incongruent with the rest of the game, but brilliant design and graphics, all the same. The graphics detail continually amazes me, and this game is about 6 years old! Very interesting plot, which almost unpredictable. This game is scary as hell! This game also scores high in the "get evil" category. Towards the end, your character is running around with a magic sythe that can decapitate two or three monsters at once, and an attack spell that summons a shrieking flaming skull from out of the ground, and when released, the skull laughs hysterically as it shoots across the room and explodes on contact. This game is fairly nuts/distrubed/twisted/bent/"completely sideways".
Still really, really scary!!! August 13, 2008 ellafan (MI) I just bought the DVD version of Undying because I sold my first game. So,I installed it,but found it wouldn't run using XP,so I used the compatibility mode thing and am running it on Windows98. Works great. Now,for the scared-silly part: This is the creepiest game I have ever played. The music, soundFX,visuals and especially those nasty howlers are absolutely perfect for inducing fear.I jumped out of my skin a few times when the howlers were after me,just like I did when I played it in 2001. Then there is the underground place overrun with skeletons. For some reason, maybe because of the atmosphere of creepiness that runs in high-gear throughout the game, the monsters in this game are so much more terrifying than any other game of its ilk that I have played. I suppose it's also the way they sound,or breathe,or surprise you at every turn. Anyway..if you love being scared silly, this is the game for you.
Spooky and original. January 10, 2008 J. Hirth (Standish, ME USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Well, based on the story alone this game is worth getting. Despite the now dated graphics, it is still a far better game than the newer Clive Barkers "Jericho". Although both games share a few familiar elements, like the main character being able to use magic and also having some skill with conventional weapons. This is a seriously under-rated game and should not be overlooked by anyone who wants to try something new and get freaked out at the same time. I highly recommend this to both survival horror fans and FPS shooter fans alike. The only downside is that some people may have trouble running this on some newer PC systems.
Fun game if it runs properly on your system August 31, 2008 Hard core dungeoneer (Il USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game has been a rollercoaster for me since purchasing it. At first, it ran way too fast. All of the movement and cutscenes seemed to run at double speed, which of course made playing the game tough. Granted, this is an old game, and running it on a newer system with dual CPUs proved to be too much. Finally, I realized that setting the affinity to one CPU enabled the game to run properly. I have not finished the game, but it presents with a great atmosphere, (although a little campy), and has generally been a solid FPS for me so far. You must take into account that this is an old game and can't stand up to Crysis, Bioshock or the like, but if you like retro games like me, this is a good, solid pick up, just make sure you're able to run it properly on your system.
