Improved User Interface The Office Standard 2007 user interface makes it easier for people to use Office applications. The streamlined screen layout and dynamic results-oriented galleries let you spend more time focused on your work and less time trying to get the application to do what you need. As a result, the Office Standard 2007 interface can help deliver great looking documents, high-impact presentations, effective spreadsheets, and powerful desktop database applications. The Ribbon Office Standard 2007 features the Ribbon, a new device that presents commands organized into a set of tabs, instead of traditional menus and toolbars. The tabs on the Ribbon display the commands that are most relevant for each of the task areas in the applications. For example, in Word, the tabs group commands for activities such as inserting objects like pictures and tables, doing page layout, working with references, doing mailings, and reviewing. For added convenience, the Home tab provides easy access to the most frequently used commands. Excel has a similar set of tabs that make sense for spreadsheet work including tabs for working with formulas, managing data, and reviewing. These tabs make it simple to access features because they organize the commands in a way that corresponds directly to the tasks you perform in the application you're using. The Microsoft Office Button Many of the most valuable features in previous versions of Office were not about the document authoring experience and instead focused on all the things you can do with a document: share it, protect it, print it, publish it, and send it. Although this focus had its advantages, previous releases lacked a single central location where a user could see all of these capabilities in one place. Office Standard 2007's new interface, however, bring together the capabilities of the Office system into a single entry point: the Microsoft Office button. This button allows for two major advantages. First, it helps users find these valuable features. Second, it simplifies the authoring process by allowing the Ribbon to focus on creating great documents. Contextual Tabs Office Standard 2007 features contextual tabs which bring important and appropriate command options to the user's attention precisely when they're needed most. Certain sets of commands are only relevant when objects of a particular type are being edited. For example, the commands for editing a chart are not relevant until a chart appears in a spreadsheet and the user is focusing on modifying it. In current versions of Office applications, these commands can be difficult to find. In Excel, however, clicking on a chart causes a contextual tab to appear with commands used for chart editing. Contextual tabs only appear when they are needed and make it much easier to find and use the commands needed for the operation at hand. Galleries Galleries are at the heart of the redesigned applications, and they deliver a set of clear results to choose from when working on your documents, spreadsheets, presentations, or Access databases. By presenting a simple set of potential results, rather than a complex dialog box with numerous options, galleries can simplify the process of producing professional looking work. For those who prefer a greater degree of control over the result of the operation, the traditional dialog box interfaces are still available. Live Preview Office Standard 2007 features Live Preview, a fresh and innovative technology that shows the results of applying an editing or formatting change as you move the pointer over the results presented in a gallery. This dynamic capability streamlines the process of laying out, editing, and formatting so you can create excellent results with less time and effort.

Pretty good software August 3, 2008 Neo (Bethesda, MD) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Biggest problem with this latest version of Microsoft is the reformatted Word functions. They're not in the order they used to be, it takes way too long to find what you're looking for, and it is less intuitively obvious. And who thought of that silly "Office Button" on the top left to fit a whole bunch of functions? Does that have some additional functionality outside of Word that has it named "Office Button?" Again, not intuitively obvious. So, perhaps this is something new for the sake of being new? In that case, give me my Word 2003 back! Especially so my friends can open my documents!!!
Great savings on quailty product January 7, 2009 Connie Dubay (Alaska) Great savings when ordering through Amazon. Microsoft Office was new in packaged and worked for what we needed it for. We saved about half compared to where we lived and got all the extras we needed in this version.

I know that I give this office 5 stars because I never used the older versions that the other reviewers did. I did have to take the tutorials. I have really enjoyed the office and it has been a great learning experience. Other reviewers that gave the Office low scores were the ones that had the older version. They had a lot of changes and a lot of new things to learn which they did not enjoy. I can say that if you never used any other version of office you will enjoy the 2007 full version. You do have to take the tutorials to get the full benefits of the office. I have been using the office for all most 2 months at the end of August. I would recommend this to my friends if they are interested in putting in the time to learn the software.
Raves for MS Office Standard 2007 Full Version May 22, 2007 Nancy Dewitz (Florida) 11 out of 18 found this review helpful
I give this a top rating for ease of installation and that consisted of pressing one or two buttons. As far as learning it, my biggest challenge was bringing over my email from my previous computer. Three clicks and it was done. Wow. It is definitely full featured. There are so many features that I haven't learned how to work all of them yet. However, I am thrilled. I bought a previous version of MS Office 2003 from another retailer and that was a mess. The validation key never worked and the company swore I was doing something wrong. It never worked right with MS Outlook hanging up all the time. Needless to say, before I bought my new software, I thought long and hard about Amazon's guarantee and how they stand behind the products sold by them. I even called Amazon to confirm that if I had issues in getting the product key to validate, could I get my money back. They assured me that would be the case. Well, it validated immediately and I can get all updates. Amazon is the best when ordering anything from them because they stand behind it 100% of the time. I have never had to return anything but have had to return approximately 50% of items not purchased through Amazon. So, I think you know where I shop.
I like the software September 2, 2008 C. Norton 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
After reading some scathing reviews about MS 2007, I was fearing the purchase. But, I needed a new computer and so I needed the software. I didn't want to get the old software. I really like the software. I have used previous versions of MS Office for many, many years. There is a learning curve like any new software, but it wasn't that hard to figure out. I really like Outlook. That was a great improvement to that program. My week can now start on Sunday instead of Monday. The biggest challenge I had with the software was looking for 'printing' and other basic functions. Then, by accident, I found it. Make sure to click in the upper left hand corner of the MS logo box. That is where I found the essentials. I also like the feature of being able to 'save as' a documemnt in an older MS version. That is very convenient. I gave 5 stars for this software because I don't know what all the hub-bub is all about. It is a good tool. And like I have said, I have used the other versions for many years. It is a good product.
