Great Kitchen PC September 1, 2008 Bigun (Folsom, CA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a great PC to put in your kitchen. It looks and works great on our countertop next to the fridge. It is tight, but it barely fits underneath our cabinets over the counters. HP did a fantastic job with the overall design, it is an attractive PC and we like the touchscreen software provided. As others have noted, the keyboard and mouse are great. I saw some complaints about glare off the screen - we have not had any issue with this. I hate glossy screens, and I consider myself pretty anal about glare. I do not think that glare is a problem with this PC, at least in our setting. The touchsreen doesn't get used in most circumstances, but it is very nice for our 3 and 5 year old kids to pick their own music, choose videos on Youtube, etc. We have made several "thank you" video notes to the grandparents using the built-in Webcam, which works great. We love having Internet, calendar, etc. in the kitchen. I just ordered a logitech wireless headset so that we can use it with Skype also. Hope to update the review if it works out well. Very nice job HP.
HP Touchsmart IQ506 September 5, 2008 Danielle L. Nester (St. Louis) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this computer from Amazon when it first came out and I've been very happy with it. The HP touchsmart screen works very well it's not multi touch but I think that multi touch is a little overblown. I was surprised that the touch works in all environments not just the touchsmart screen. You can use the touch surfing the web playing games or whatever but you will still need to use your mouse in small areas. One recommendation I have is if you don't use the touchsmart screen alot keep it turned off until you use it it will leave you with alot more RAM but it will take the touchsmart software longer to load which is a good trade off for me. When I bought this computer I heard all the bad press about Vista but after using it I have to say that Vista is much better than XP. My touchsmart starts faster and shuts down faster than my XP computer. Vista has some very nice features and I will be upgrading my XP computer soon. I love Windows Media Center and having the TV tuner in this computer. Media Center works like a tivo unit you can record all of your favorite programs when you want to and how you want to. I have mine set to record all my favorite shows when they are new shows so I don't miss anything. I have DirecTV hooked up and I also have my local channels In High Def hooked up. This system will be really good when I get an extender to hook to my main TV so I can watch what I recorded In another room. For anyone that has an Xbox 360 you can use it as an extender. The speakers on this unit are better than the speakers that I have on my other computer but I still plan on attaching a home stereo to it. With the touchsmart music section it works like a jukebox you can listen to any music in your library however you want putting music in a playlist is so much easier than any mp3 swoftware. So If you want a computer thats also a jukebox, movie player, photo editer, television and much more I would highly recommend this computer.
Amazing Technology - Nice Machine October 12, 2008 Elron Fizzbin (Phillipsburg, NJ) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I recently purchased the TouchSmart IQ506. Setup was very easy, just extend the support arm, plug it in and in about 15 minutes it sets itself up (with a little input from you) and it's ready to go. I use this computer in my family room which is perfect for it. We play a lot of casual games such as find-an-item and "Diner Dash" type games, and the touchscreen works incredibly well with these and the kids love it. One note of caution is that after it was finished setting up, it was a little slow when loading things and playing DVDs. On a hunch I uninstalled the Norton Antivirus software that came bundled and installed a different free one, and it ran much faster and worked much better. I've never been a fan of bundled software. I don't know how often I will use the different TouchSmart software applications, preferring to use Windows Media Center with the remote (which also works with touchscreen), but they seemed very user-friendly, easy-to-use and attractive. Overall, a capable machine with some very nice features at a decent price.
A new experiece in desktop computing. August 31, 2008 Colin Griffiths (Labrador, Queensland Australia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A delightful product built to HP high standards. HP have included about everything you could think of. I like the small "foot print". I am partially blind and the big touch screen is great for me. Sound quality good. Web cam great. HP have also included an easy to use iPhone like interface that makes computing a real joy. If you are looking for a reliable desktop - This is it. Great dispatch service from AMAZON too. Five stars.
Great innovative Computer August 31, 2008 Savio Fernandes (WEST NEW YORK, NJ 07093) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been checking out the HP Touchsmart for the past couple of years and finally decided to buy the IQ506, one week ago. Setup was a breeze but I noticed that when i switched from TV use to PC use, the graphics would freeze up for a while before coming back. The HP button is a cool feature and so is Media Center thought I had radio on my other HP computer but was not able to work the radio on the IQ506. System overall is fast and at 1,399 is a good deal considering its free shipping and no taxes. LIVE CHAT with customer service is a joke though. Could not get a correct answer from them on my problem. Overall is a great PC, with the touch screen, not just for the kitchen etc but can be used as a 1st PC.
