5 out of 5 stars Simplicity!   September 20, 2007

I absolutely LOVE this GPS. We never owned one before, and 5 minutes after taking the GPS out of the box we were on our way on our first route. It worked flawlessly - we even tried "tricking" the device by taking different roads. It immediately recalculated our route within seconds without any errors. It is user friendly and uncomplicated. The only downside is that both of my daughters have put in a request for one for a Christmas gift!

5 out of 5 stars Very easy to use GPS at a great price !!   November 23, 2007

The TomTom One ( 3rd edition ) is a very nice little GPS. I picked one up today for $104 at Staples.

It is easy to use, small, attractive, and has all the features you really need and want in a GPS while leaving out those that you do not need. In my opinion a GPS should be a GPS and not an MP3 player, video player, book reader, language translator, etc. There are other devices that perform those functions and do a much better job with actual keyboards and nice, large displays, greater memory, etc.

The TomTom One performs navigation and does it easily and friendly. You do not need to read any manual, it is just that easy. The speaking voice is loud and clear. The device has millions of points-of-interests and you can easily add ones that are not found and then upload them using the free TomTom Home software to share with others and eventually TomTom will add them to the database once they verify them. Nice !!

The unit uses the TeleAtlas database and I have found it to be quite accurate here in my local area in Albuquerque NM.

I also purchased the TomTom ONE zippered hard case and it fits the unit well and offers good protection. I also recommend it for your unit.

So, if you want a very affordable, very easy to use GPS, that gets you from point A to B in a fun way then you cannot go wrong with the TomTom ONE ( 3rd Edition ).

I am a foreigner and can't find places without a map or Internet directions, even with these resources I tent to get lost... a lot! A friend suggested to get a Portable GPS Navigation System, and I just got the little TomTom One 3rd Edition on sale for half the price! I am amazed by the functions, the easy computer interface between computer and device that lets you update your maps and points of interest and even download new maps, make corrections and buy different voices and programs if you want to check the weather conditions from your device or find alternative ways around traffic. It is pre-loaded with emergency numbers in case you need to get help during an emergency or directions to the nearest hospital. You can choose from several female and male voices and a ton of different languages (I love the guy voice on mine :-). I even programmed my name and phone number on the unit, just in case it gets lost (And a nice person finds it and tries to return it to me! Whom am I kidding! :-). TomTom works flawlessly on my area and picks up satellite signals in seconds. The display can be customized and you can see it clearly during night or day; and the voice commands are loud and clear! I also recommend getting a case to put it away and keep it safe. If you are short like me or the car windshield is too far away from you like in some SUV's a Nav-Mat Portable GPS Dash Mount will help you to keep it closer and move your unit to a different car in seconds; a lifesaver if you live in California or Pennsylvania were it is illegal to have any devices mount on a suction cup on the windshield! If you would like to find a place safely and get there as planned, or if your husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend or kid is directional impair like me :-) this is the way to go! Give the gift of directions! Bravo for TomTom!

This picks up sat signal so fast, its very customizable, good views, pretty accurate... only hate is units in yards and miles instead of feet and miles.

5 out of 5 stars Great machine for the price   February 24, 2008

I waited over one year before purchasing a GPS. Although a sad confession to make , the anticipation of the 'buy' was a harmless past-time in this period. I assessed my needs & how often I would actually use one & when the one 3rd ed. hit the 160 ish mark , I bought it. I am very happy with it. I set up the on-line downloads & that updated it straight away ( free for the first month ) & allows one to create routes etc & download more 'points of interest'. For example a sign for Dunkin' D's shows up when I drive past one ( there are many other options , to appease my wife , a sign for Target also appears ) . I also downloaded, for free, an English ladies voice for the directions. All personal choice & I prefer the sound of her. I like the option of Zip/post codes & it shows telephone numbers of points of interest . On driving, I have found it to be quick in picking up signals ( again , one can download sat' info' each week that assists the GPS in locating them ) & the information to be just what I need. The announcements , thus far, have been easy to understand & operate on; as have the screen directions. I like the 'help' features that give basic information on first aid & car stuff.
I wld strongly recommend this product. My 2 pieces of advice : If you drive & need to use a GPS ALOT , consider one with a larger screen - that is true for any GPS ( I didn't think the extra 100 or so was worth it for the number of times I really need to use it , but a daily user may think differently) . ALso , I strongly recommend buying the bracketron Nav-MAt. I live in a high crime area ( my car has been broken into 4 times & once they only stole the rear view mirror ) & this beauty ensures that no marks are left on the screen , also , it makes it easier to take the GPS out of the car & away somewhere safe.
Overall, this is a very solid & well priced unit that will serve most buyers well . It does exactly what it says 'on the tin'.

Update - I have used this a lot over the past few weeks. Updating points of interests is quite easy. Like a few other reviewers; it is far easier to plan ones route & update etc via the computer screen. The TT allows 'remote' access & from the computer ( with the TT attached ) new routes & map updates can be processed. I have also set my screen to show the 'map update' icon. For example, when driving, if you notice that a shop has closed & it is on the POI ( points of interest ) -or you want to add a new POI, simply tap on the icon & it will save the location & allow one to edit & send the information to others. I used this option last night. It was very quick & once you have done it once, it will be second nature.
