In one word...EPIC. March 17, 2010 Gavin R. West (MIchigan) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Let me start by saying that I have played the other 'hack and slash' games such as Dante's Inferno and Bayonetta and although they are good, they cannot hold a candle to the quality of God of War 3. The sheer amount of action and brutality is enough to amaze even the most jaded cynics, topped with graphics and sound that are on a whole different level compared to any other console games. Some may complain about the length but I do not see any reason why you wouldn't want to play through this game multiple times just for the mesmerizing experience. Not for the faint of heart, there are some intense scenes of violence in this game that would make even the most hardcore gore fans blush. Do not hesitate, pick this game up today!

PS3 Has goty locked up again March 21, 2010 True Next Gen Gamer, sorry wii (Doesn't Matter) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
First let's clear the xbox fans outta here, the game is short if you don't look for extra items that need to be found, for enhancement of the 2nd play through. Also stop comparing it to another ps3 exclusive U2 (that's how you can tell) because they compare the graphics. No ps3 fan is going to compare 2 ps3 exclusive titles, only xbox fans. The game is epic. The boss battles are top notch. Graphics are sick to say the least. Storyline is great, (stop listening to ign). Well worth more than a rental and clearly a system seller. Controls are awesome and haven't changed much but what god of war fan wants them changed? If you have played any of the previous installments, you see the enhancements and changes that were made. I had a 360, matter of fact I've had 5(rrod, check the games I've sold on amazon) so no fanboy here, just realism. This game is unbelievable and anybody who plays it, you are in for a truly epic experience. Great job Sony. Xbox fanboys, stop giving it low scores, you did the same thing with U2 and we see how that turned out, GOTY, history is repeating itself.
Masterpiece-Definitely, Perfection-let's see... April 6, 2010 Spike Man (New York, New York) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The first GOW game I played was gow2, after I finished I declared it the best game ever. I had some personal problems with it but it was the best game for me. How can it ever be topped? By creating gow3!God of War III is a masterpiece, every element of it was done with the greatest care and precision. Everything about it is stunning and exemplary... I just love this game. Here's why.
Story: GOW 3 starts off where GOW 2 finished. Enough about what you've seen in other reviews, what you might not expect is getting a deeper look into the character of Kratos. We know about the past and the motivations of Kratos, in this game we go deeper into his psyche and explore his state of mind as he rages war against Zeus and the rest of the olympians. We see more rage and brutality (i never thought that was possible) and a we get a look at a paternal side of Kratos further in the story. Furthermore this story is tightly-knit. Everything is explained in a coherent manner. Nothing is contrived, gratuitous or left out. It's nice to see that a well-developed story is emphasized in a game like this. It's a simple a revenge story that would be complete without the emphasis, but it just adds to the greatness of this game.
Characters: Kratos is bad-ass as ever and I explained what he's like earlier, the other characters and their voice actors deliver top-notch performances. (Except for Aphrodite) I don't know what else to say about them. I'm speechless. I get rage whenever I'm supposed to feel rage against them (especially Zeus) and I'm sympathetic and intrigued when sympathetic characters appear. A++.
Graphics: Absolutely jaw dropping. it's hard to tell the difference between a pre-rendered cutscene and gameplay footage. There is no screen tearing,no slow-down anywhere. The level of detail surpasses great PS3 exclusives like Uncharted 2 and MGS4. During battle, when it get more intense, you can actually see Kratos' muscles tense up as he delivers damage. Blood sticks to him and any other enemy when is spews all of the place. (This happens often.) The scale of this game is the crowning achievement of this game. The fighting on Gaia is one of the most heart-pounding fights I've ever had. It looks amazing, it feels amazing, you cannot miss that experience.
Gameplay: If it aint broke, don't fix it... Build upon it! That's the philosophy with this game. They raised the level of perfection in this game. It's more fluid, intuitive, and just a hell of alot of fun just killing waves of enemies. Buy the game, see how fun it is, it's worth more than $60.
Replayability: That's not a real word but it should be. You can play this game over and over again with the items and skins you've unlocked and you'll have a different experience everytime. The challenges outside the game are quite hard though, a few are irritating and there is one that is just pointless but it does not diminish the game's greatness.
All in all, BUY THIS GAME NOW!! DO NOT MISS OUT ON ONE OF THE GREATEST GAMES OF ALL TIME. That's right I said it, ALL TIME! Past, present, future, this game surpasses all!
Note:For me there is just one negative. I'm being honest about this game so I have to put up a negative comment when it comes up. Some of the olympians are TOO easy to kill. In the first game, Ares was ridiculously hard to kill. In the second one, you don't kill any olympians (except the sisters of fate) mostly the heroes, and they had satisfying battles (and deaths. especially theseus). In this game, the olympians, (even though they're supposed to be stronger) are killed very easily. I won't give up any spoilers but 2 die by a broken neck and one dies by losing a NON-VITAL organ. What the hell? That's too easy. Great game anyway. It's fun to watch them die.
EPIC JUST PURE EPIC!!! April 9, 2010 Devendra S. Mistry (San Diego, CA USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
After playing God of War 1 and 2 in HD, I was truly curious how one can make improvements to this series. Graphics were already phenomenal. Its heck&slash combat system is very balanced (Not as challenging as Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry games, but also you can't button mash, at least not on the difficult modes). And finally, if you have played 1&2 , you know these games are PURE EPIC. I mean they will take you from heights of Mount Olympus to the depths of Hades. Whether it is Pandora's Box or Sister of Fates, Kratos will finish his objectives and kill everyone in his path in the most brutal way possible providing you ENDLESS ENTERTAINMENT.
I mean what can you possibly improve?
So I play God of War 3 and man, Santa Monica studio lives up to its name.
-MASSIVE IMPROVEMENTS IN GRAPHICS, CHARACTER AND ENEMY DESIGNS
Yes my friends. These graphics can go head to head with games such as Uncharted 2
-LOVE THE NEW WEAPONS and GADGETS.
Each boss you defeat rewards you with a new weapon or a gadget. And this are in addition to the weapons and gadgets you gained in GOW 2.
-LOADS AND LOADS OF AWESOME BOSSES
You pretty much face all the GODS AND TITANS in this game at one point or the other. These battles are spectacular and very rewarding.
-PUZZLES
Again, one would think, what can you possible add that was not done in one and 2. Answer is Deadlius. YES PLAY AND FIND OUT.
-VERY SAD, YET SATISFYING STORY
A great way to finish trilogy. Won't spoil it for you. BE SURE TO CAREFULLY WATCH THE ENDING :)
In summary, the GAME IS EPIC. If you played 1 &2 then it is a MUST BUY. If you did not play 1 & 2 then purchase the trilogy. YOU WON'T REGRET IT.
One of the best game i have ever played. PERIOD. March 16, 2010 Trevor Z. Horton (Los angeles, CA USA) 13 out of 17 found this review helpful
