I eat a Clif Bar every morning for breakfast before I exercise. They stop the cravings and fuel me for the duration of my work out. Good balance of protein to carbs with no refined sugar and NO corn syrup. Lots of added vitamins and minerals make it a great meal replacement also when I'm too busy to eat a meal. My favorite flavor is the chocolate almond fudge--it's chocolately enough without being sickly sweet. Perfect!
Tastiness Varies with Types, Beware March 28, 2007 Miles Elliot Feranoncelli (Stillwater, OK, United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Clif Bars are a fairly feel-good food. 20% recommended DV fiber per bar! In this day and age, that's hard to come by. The ingredients seem health- and environmentally friendly, and the bar also supplies a good chunk of minerals and vitamins, as well. Works like a charm as an energy bar - I feel light-footed during a jog if I throw one down the hatch a few hours before. As for taste! Well, my palate places Cool Mint Chocolate in the clear lead, and Carrot Cake near the bottom. I do recommend buying individual bars from a local retailer to sample the flavors so as to avoid being stuck with a bulk shipment of a variety that tastes like chemicals and looks like compressed cat vomit (I refer to the Carrot Cake). Aside from that, I adore my Clif Bars. One is enough to serve as a meal for me, and a 250-calorie meal is nice and light.
My new favorite flavor! August 30, 2007 Jacqueline Davidson (New York, NY) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I had been stuck on the Cranberry Apple Cherry for a while but the Blueberry Crisp is perfect. I'm about to buy a case of them. I tend to eat them for breakfast when I am late for work, or take them for lunch if I don't have time to make it the night before. So why this flavor? First of all, it has whole almonds in it, which I find add a satisfying crunch to the chewy bar. Also, with some of the other fruit bars, the distinct fruit flavors don't come out, it's more a "fruity flavor" in general. But blueberry is the overwelming flavor in this bar, without a doubt. On a health-related note: To all those reviewers who are complaining about the fat and sugar content: it has a purpose. The ratio of carbs to protein to fat is specifically calculated for optimum nutrition (I believe it's 40%/30%/30% but don't quote me on that). Remember that these aren't trans-fats or refined sugars and despite what many dieters believe, complex carbs and "good" fats are necessary for good nutrition. Now, can you eat one of these for breakfast and follow it with a (insert breakfast pastry of choice here) 20 minutes later? ... no. But they do make a perfect meal (or snack) for a person eating small portions 5-6 times a day. I find that one bar entirely fills me up for a good 3 hours.
Great entry into eating Clif Bars July 16, 2006 CogX 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
I've been eating Clif Bars, at least two a week, for three years now. Of the many Clif Bar flavors, I've found most other people I've had try them, unless they hate peanuts, tend to like the Crunchy Peanut Butter flavor - even if some, or all, of the other flavors don't quite do it for them. Usually, I'll go in spurts where I'll be really into one flavor for a month or two, but then decide I'm done with that flavor for some time. However, the Crunchy Peanut Butter is the one flavor I just never get tired of, so I consider it my staple Clif Bar flavor! If one has never had a Clif Bar, the most important thing to remember is that these are NOT candy bars. However, if anyone has tried a traditional soy-protein energy/nutrition bar and decided they couldn't stand the taste, that is where Clif Bars (and Luna Bars) come in - they live in the land in between candy bars filled with fat and zero nutrition and all of those nutrition bars that taste like cardboard (or worse!)
High Fiber, Moderate Sodium Tasty Cereal Bar August 27, 2006 Robert A. Williams (Oberlin, OH United States) 12 out of 17 found this review helpful
Recently researchers found that high fiber consumption, especially from beans and cereals, is linked to longevity. A recent article in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition said that fiber provides cardiovascular protection and can lower the risk of heart disease. Yet nearly half of all Americans do not consume the RDA for fiber, which is 28 to 34 mg for men and 22 to 28 mg for women. This very tasty cereal bar is therefore a good way to add fiber to one's diet. It contains 5 grams of dietary fiber and 4 grams of insoluable fiber. Insoluable fiber is important because it acts as a sponge in wiping cholesterol from the inside of your arteries, which if not wiped off can cause fats to get caught on the cholesterol's hooks. These fats in turn lead to arteriosclerosis or thickening of the artery walls. Another plus is that 70% of this tasty bar's ingredients are organic. Non-organic foods carry the risk of cancer-causing pesticides. In short, this is a high fiber food with 110 mg of sodium, that doesn't taste like cardboard but is delicious and flavor-packed!
