functional and attractive February 26, 2009 S. Schmitz 31 out of 33 found this review helpful
The Kindle 2 cover was delivered the same day as my Kindle 2. I love it. The fit is perfect, it smells wonderful (girls do love leather) and the hinges hold the kindle firmly in their grasp. The cover feels good in the hand and flipped back the sueded inside makes it easy to hold. I am very grateful that this cover does not have the ugly and obtrusive four corner elastics. The only complaint I might have would be asking for it to be a bit more girlie---red, green, pink, something! Function is super, FUNction would be even better.
Perfect for me March 2, 2009 Robin L. McLaughlin (Seattle, Wa.) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
I don't rate things with 5 stars very often, but this Kindle cover is perfect for me. It feels very solid and well-made.
I love the hinge system and after experiencing how it works in action I would not consider any cover that didn't use it. Far superior to any sort of strap and/or velcro system. I find that it's extremely easy to take the Kindle in and out of the cover with the clips, which I do fairly frequently. When reading in bed I like the Kindle naked, but as soon as I store it for the night or take it anywhere on goes the cover.
I like the very simple design of the cover. I actually am glad it doesn't have any sort of strap or clasp. I love being able to just flip it open when I want to read or remove the Kindle. When going out I carry it in my messenger style bag and it fits flat in the main pocket and I've had no issues with it flapping open. I have a hard time picturing how that would happen unless you have a really, really large purse that doesn't allow it to lie flat against an edge.
I consider the fact that the Kindle doesn't attach solidly to the back flap a plus because it allows easy attachment of a book light to the cover for when a reading light is needed. I haven't had any problems with the Kindle feeling floppy in the case because it isn't velcro'd down to the back.
While the leather is not high quality by any means it feels like it won't get beat up really easily and I really like the pebbled surface to help with grip and it looks nice too.
The soft felt lining is nice and I like that the cover can either be held with both hands for book style reading or it can be folded completely back for easy one-handed reading. The cover aids with propping the Kindle up for hands free reading in several different situations too.
As far as I'm concerned the only real drawback is that it seems a bit on the heavy side, so between the Kindle and the cover it's not exactly feather light. But that weight also helps keep the cover closed flat.
I also found a new use for the cover on Saturday night! The author Kim Harrison made a personal appearance at a nearby bookstore and she did a book signing afterwards. I mentioned I'd brought the previous paperback with me for her to sign because I got the new release on my Kindle. She had one of those gold paint type pens and signed the inside of my Kindle cover for me. Now it's really custom! ;)
Great case that makes the kindle look like a book February 27, 2009 D. M. Reed (Wheat Ridge, CO United States) 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
This is a vast improvement over the kindle 1 stock case. I love the hinge system. Keeps the kindle very securely in the case. It absolutely does not scratch the kindle! And this case is leather. The person who has a one star review of this case claiming its not leather and that it scratches her kindle is doing something wrong and she spams the kindle forums because she is pushing $75 high grade leather covers every chance she gets.
This case is a wonderful case if you want a cover that looks like a book cover. Simple lines, stylish. No added pockets, pen holders or straps just like a real book cover. It stays firmly shut as well and when you want it to folds back very flat.
Like someone else said this is the gold standard. I do wish they would add more colors but I love this case! I could never find a case I was happy with with kindle 1 so I am glad I started out kindle 2 with a lovely book cover.
Happy I had the cover on when I dropped my new Kindle 2 February 27, 2009 Canoodle (Chicago, IL USA) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I finally received my Amazon leather cover today and was very relieved. I had just put my Kindle into it and 20 minutes later I dropped the whole thing, Kindle and all, while showing my new case to my husband. I thought I had hurt my new Kindle! My husband said he watched the cover hit the floor and it hit directly on the edge of the cover. NO DAMAGE, THANK GOD! For everyone out there wondering if they should get a cover, or if the Amazon cover works, please, please get a cover, and yes, I attest to the fact of the security of the Amazon cover for the Kindle.
Safe, secure leather cover. February 28, 2009 Zou Zou (cape cod,ma) 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
A functional leather cover for the Kindle 2. This is a good basic cover. It is unobtrusive and maintains the Kindle 2's low profile.
The hinge system securely fastens the Kindle 2 into the leather cover. Though the included plastic protective sheet that states "rotate" by the bottom hinge/hook is initially confusing. The lower hinge doesn't rotate. To insert the Kindle 2 into the cover you need to line up the Kindle 2's hinge slots with the cover's hinges/hooks. The upper hinge/hook is moveable and locks the Kindle 2 securely. Very simple and easy.
The front and rear boards are rigid and the interior surface of the boards are soft and thinly padded. The Kindle 2 is completely enclosed inside the covers. The front cover easily folds back behind the unit if that is how you prefer to read.
This matte black leather Kindle 2 cover performs exactly as described.
Recommended.
