Outstanding! Truly an Awesome Handset!!! April 8, 2008 P. Sherman 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I have owned this phone now, for over two weeks. I waited patiently for a deal on this phone to show up, somewhere at some point. it was a long wait. a close friend of mine writes the code for moto phones, and i got to take a sneak peek at this phone early on, before its release. i got to see it up close, and in person, and ever since, i wanted one. i knew that when this phone came out, i was going to buy one at some point. i got this phone for 12 bucks, after rebate via amazon, and after the cost of the 2gb Sandisk memory card. it came in the original ATT box, with the plastic still on it, and all the parts still encased in protective plastic. the phone was truly a new, never used, in the box cell phone as amazon.com promised. This is not a cheap deal on a refurb, its the real thing. The build quality on this phone is spectacular. The rubberized backing of the handset to make it non slip for sweaty hands, the integrated battery cover that is far better integrated than the Razr1, the look, the feel, the glass, the casing, everything about this phone is leaps better. up to and including the screen, the keypad, the hinge, the camera, the battery life, and quality of calls, its just amazing. The Bluetooth is VERY fast. on average transferring an mp3 from my laptop to my old razr1 took about 30-45 minutes. This new Razr2 can do it in about 30-45 seconds, and I'm not exaggerating. i timed it, with several different size songs. this thing is FAST. The internet speeds on the Edge and 3G networks are just awesome. a world of difference. truly. I can remember lags and wait times in excess of two or three minutes on my razr1 waiting for Gmail or yahoo mail to load up. The instant messenger programs are really great! the connectivity, the ease of use and quick setup times make them a true lifesaver if you are on the go away from your computer. this phone is amazing in how connected it keeps you. The LCD, both inside and out is just gorgeous. the look and feel of them is really top notch! better than that of the iPhone for sure. The external buttons on the External LCD work flawlessly too and are very easy to locate and use, even for someone like me who has big clumsy fingers. The menues are better and seem to be similar but more refined. the two soft keys at the top of the keypad help in navigating and have better menu options than the razr1 also. The haptics is awesome. its a HUGE help! i really am impressed with that too, as well as the camera, the print command to bluetooth to a modern bluetooth capable printer (which i tested and worked perfectly) and the Voice dial feature is MUCH more easily used and much smarter than the original razr's too. way easier to use! Text messaging is VERY easy with this phone. someone before me said this wasnt a good machine for texting but i dis agree. it took me about a week to adjust to it after the razr, but this thing is very easy and fluid to text with and messages come and go VERY fast. its easy to set up new messages and read incoming ones, to clear up the messages, and to find recipients when sending, and to insert data into texts. its very intuitive and easy to use the keypad too. this is a MUST for me, as texting is one of my top forms of communication. The best part of this phone is the voice communications. the call clarity, the lack of dropped calls, etc, are first rate and top notch. better even then my landline at home. i didnt think call quality like this could be achieved with a wireless handset and motorola is to be commended for the job they did with this phone in that respect. its just unbeleivable until you hear the difference. I finally got around to testing the mp3 player today too, and it works like a charm. the external buttons work awesome and are very easy to use and control the player with, and the music player is basic but has all the tools and options you need. its just right! and yes, the bluetooth to headset in stereo is there and it too is very impressive. it works great! The memory card i bought, the Sandisk 2gb Micro SD memory card, popped into the slot in teh back of the phone beside the sim card, and was immediately recognized without issue. it works perfectly and even works out as an external storage device on my computer. i was worried, i run vista on my laptop, but it found the phone and they play very nice together. same goes for bluetooth transfers. both went smooth as can be, with no hiccups. this phone is all that and a bag of doritos. One note of caution: be very VERY careful with the cover on the phone to the charging outlet, it is delicate. its the only achilles heel to this phone. be careful and youll be ok. Battery life is great. i got about a day to a day and a half with my Razr1, i get three to four days with this phone. its a great and drastic improvement, and with the adaptor it comes with, you can even use your old razr1 car charger with this phone too. so no worries there at all.
Best phone I've owned February 16, 2008 Pierangelo Espinocilla (San Francisco, CA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have to admit, I was a little concerned when I upgraded from my venerable Treo 680 smartphone. The Treo did everything I wanted it to, but I didn't need all the extra smartphone features anymore so I decided I was going to "downgrade" to a regular phone. The new AT&T Motorola RAZR2 V9 caught my eye almost immediately, and having tested it out extensively I finally convinced myself to buy it. So far, I haven't been disappointed. The phone itself feels sturdy and solid, not flimsy and cheap like the original RAZR V3 did. True, the exterior smudges quite a bit but that's easily cleaned off. It's slightly thinner and narrower than the original, plus it has a large, impressive exterior LCD display. The camera isn't that impressive, but it's a lot better than the 640x480 of my Treo. Some features I really liked about this phone: 1. The ability to control the phone ringer when I have a headset on (Speaker, Headset, or Both). I can make the phone ring through the headset only so it doesn't disturb others, and when I have it on vibrate it doesn't have to play music through the headset. Very convenient. 2. The included mini to micro USB adapter so I can use my old V3 chargers, and the headphone adapter so I can use regular headphones. A very considerate move by Motorola and AT&T. 3. Support for AT&T's new Mobile Backup - I can backup my contacts online (subscription required) so if I ever lose or irreparably damage the phone I can restore the numbers remotely to a similar phone. 4. Bluetooth 2.0 support - lets my headset work farther from the phone than before. Quite handy when I'm working and moving about. 5. The Options softkey that lets me access several important functions (Bluetooth Link, Camera, Alarm Clock) quickly. 6. MMS messaging is faster, probably because of the newer 3G tech (though I don't live in a 3G coverage area) Some gripes: 1. I can't fully customize the buttons - there's no way to configure the Options softkey to go through *my* preferred apps, and there's no way to change the default Media Net and Cellular Video buttons, both of which I rarely if ever use. And without the old Menu button of the original RAZR, those deficiencies become more glaring. 2. No flash on the camera, so avoid using it in low lighting. Overall, I really like my new V9, and I recommend it to anyone in the market for a fairly high end, non-smartphone handset.
Best penny I ever spent! March 11, 2008 R. Scott (Oklahoma City, OK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Originally paid 49.99 for the phone, but saw that it dropped in price to .01 only a couple days after I ordered it, so I called Amazon and was refunded 48.98. The V9 was an upgrade from the original RAZR that I had for 2+ years. I was able to keep my old phone number with AT&T, although I did have to pay $18 to AT&T for the "upgrade fee," and I also bought a 2 Gig. MicroSD card online for $10.25. So altogether, I guess I actually paid $28.26. Still not bad. The call quality of the phone is excellent, volume is perfect, especially compared to the original RAZR. Decent camera for a phone. Battery life isn't fabulous, but I haven't seen a phone that has incredible battery life (I was having to charge my RAZR every day, so anything more than a day was an upgrade); I think I'm having to charge this phone about every 3rd day.
Excellent fringe area performance March 3, 2008 G. Orwig 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
We live in a weak signal area for both Verizon and AT&T. We had an old phone under Verizon that would hardly work in the house ... second floor, hanging out a window. One neighbor had a newer Samsung phone on Verizon and they could get a weak but functional signal in their house, so we went to Verizon to "re-up" a two year contract. However, we could not get them to give us a reasonable (free or low cost) upgrade to a new top of the line phone ... had to be a NEW customer to get that! So we started looking at AT&T. Our next door neighbor had just gotten a Razr V3xx and sat in our living room with 3 bars of signal strength on the AT&T network. On Amazon, it just happened that the V3xx was available for $49 or $99 (I forget which, but on that day the RAZR2 V9 was $.01! Yes I think that was just for a day ... it is back up again to $49 when I checked today. Based upon the reviews, I went with it. It has way more bells and whistles than we will ever use, but the good news is that in our house it usually has a FULL 5 bars in the 3G network, with 3 bars in the EDGE network being the lowest that I have noticed. Last night, my wife sat on the floor of our family room, playing with the cats, while talking for 45 minutes to her mom. Her mother ... hard of hearing ... said it was the clearest she had ever heard my wife over her phone ... and we have been using the (expensive) land line to call her for months. Other good points ... Both my wife and I are getting up a bit in years, and the large, bright external and internal displays are wonderful just for the basic stuff ... what digit did I just push?? Who is calling? etc. I like the little "buzz" that it makes when I push a side button. It lets me know that I pushed something. Negatives ... they are picky stuff. If you want it to look great, you can't use it. Fingers, ears, hair, etc. will make it look a greasy mess in no time flat. Time to find a clear case for it. There is one, and only one connector port. It is a little micro USB port that has a little rubber flap over it. I expect the flap to be gone very soon. The charger goes into that port, and it takes practice to line it up right. The wired connector for your computer (update phone number list, etc.) goes in there too. That is separate software, but it has a very reasonable price. I've just ordered a Bluetooth dongle for my old laptop and it should let me bypass that cable. While updating my phone numbers, I caught the cable with the desk chair arm and pulled the phone off the desk ... onto a carpet, thank goodness. For such a small phone, a wireless connection will be a much smarter way to go if it works! Bottom line ... It looks like a phone that has features way beyond what I need. But if you are in a weak AT&T signal area and want to replace an older phone, this phone may help solve that problem! Keep an eye out on Amazon and see if the price bounces back down again. I noticed that when I ordered, the same price applied for new two year contracts AND those who were re-upping old contracts. Verizon, pay attention! You lost a 6 year customer just because you would not do the same! Oh ... and I double checked with both AT&T and Amazon. They do honor the 30 day trial period even though I purchased the phone online. If I return it within 30 days, I do have to pay the initial connection and "time used" fees, but I would not have any other "multi hundred dollar" penalties. Those kick in AFTER the 30 days and BEFORE the contract ends.
Do not trust the amazon rebate .. you are warned June 20, 2008 SEA Electronics (Raleigh, NC USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Time for another amazon fraud rebate scheme. I bought AT&T phone from amazon believing i will get the $150 rebate for first generation razor. Had all the documentation but still amazon refused to honor and kept me going in circles and gazillion threads of emails. Never have seen the check, $150 went the drain. Haven't bought anything from amazon that involved rebate since then. your call.. just want to warn
